Mission and structure

Pano Languages is a non-profit project to promote and preserve Indigenous languages of the Amazon. We begin with the Yawanawá language, of the Yawanawá people of the Rio Gregório Indigenous Territory in Acre, Brazil. Later we want to welcome other peoples of the Pano language family, such as the Noke Koî and the Huni Kuin. Each people has its own section, with its own dictionary, products and partner organisation.

Our principles

  1. Non-profit and transparent. After costs, the money goes to each people's community. We publish the numbers on the transparency page.
  2. The website is run by a volunteer who receives nothing from sales.
  3. The seller is the people's organisation. The money goes straight into its account.
  4. Cultural respect. The community decides what is published. Unauthorised sacred content never reaches the server.
  5. Privacy by default. We collect only what is needed, hosted in the European Union.
  6. Minimal costs. We always choose the cheapest option that is reliable.

Volunteer statement

This website is maintained on a voluntary basis by André Verde, who handles the technical side. He does not sell the books and receives no income from sales. Sales are made by each people's partner organisation, which receives payments directly. Website expenses are reimbursed at actual cost only, with invoices published on the transparency page. His only interest is to help promote these languages and keep this culture from being lost.
